Gary Aksamit

Gary Aksamit is an American businessman and policy writer. He is the Chairman of Aksamit Resource Management, an energy company.

Career

In mid-2000's Gary founded Aksamit Resource Management. He has spearheaded multiple wind projects in the Southwest Power Pool currently in development in SouthEastern Nebraska near his home town of Milligan. Aksamit Resource Management, is the largest wind energy developer in the state. Gary previously worked as a pit trader and wholesale power marketer for more than 25 years.

Aksamit Resource Management has grown into a fully integrated Independent Power Producer including i) development of approximately 900 MWs.

In 2013 Gary formed Wind is Water Foundation as an education vehicle to help conservationists explain wind energy to the public who were skeptical of wind power. Many of these thermal power plants are located in highly water constrained areas of the mid-west including Nebraska.

In 2016 Gary and his colleagues founded Americans For Electricity Choice which aims to educate public officials AbOUT the benefits of transparent, deregulated, and free energy markets. Aksamit fights on behalf of the ratepayers and has proven that states such as Nebraska overpay by at least $250 million per year on electricity. Aksamit argues free market principals are the best way to reduce ratepayer’s electricity costs while opening up the competitive markets to renewable energy. He has testified in court numerous times, most recently in his home state of Nebraska with the intent of opening up the market that is currently monopolized by Nebraska Public Power.

In 2017, Aksamit retired as CEO and remains Chairman for the mean time.

Personal Life

In 1994, Aksamit married his first wife which ended 2 years later. In 2001, Aksamit married his current wife Laurel Kastrup. Aksamit resides in Plano Texas with Laurel and their daughter Reese.
