Garth Steek

Garth Steek is a politician, lawyer, and businessman in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He was elected to the Winnipeg City Council in 1995 and served on that body until 2004.
Background
Steek has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg and a law degree from the University of Manitoba. He left the legal practice to join his family's business, Steekโ€™s Fine Furniture, in Winnipeg.
In 1995 Steek was elected to Winnipeg City Council, beating incumbent Sandy Hyman, in the River Heights Ward. Steek was re-elected in 1998 and 2002.
When Murray resigned as Mayor in mid-term in 2004, Steek ran in the municipal by-election to replace him. He placed a distant fifth, losing to Sam Katz. Near the end of the race, some of his supporters indicated that he had given up and was quietly assisting Katz's campaign.
