Ganit Forum (Khulna)
Ganit Forum Khulna () or Mathematics Forum Khulna in English, was formed in the year 2008 to raise the standard of learning in mathematics in Bangladesh, specially in Khulna division.
History
On 4th January, 2008 twenty eight teachers, present and old, from Khulna came together for a meeting at B L College, Khulna, Bangladesh, with a view to raise the standard of learning of Mathematics. It was decided that an organization of Mathematics teachers of school college and university levels and mathematics graduates should be formed. Thereafter four more meeting were organized where the organization was decided to be 'Ganit Forum Khulna' (In English : Mathematics Forum Khulna) and its internal organization was chosen.The draft constitution of the organization was prepared by Professor Mohammad Arif Hossain of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology(KUET) and K M Rabbani of Govt B L College, Khulna. On 25 April 2008 in the presence of two hundred and seventeen Mathematics teachers, Ganit Forum Khulna was formally inaugurated at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology(KUET),Bangladesh.First President and secretary of the organization were Professor Harunur Rashid and Professor Mujibor Rahman respectively.
Objectives
- To engage in mathematics related publication, promotion and discussion of mathematics for the all round development of mathematics education mathematics related publication, promotion and discussion of mathematics Khulna as well as all of Bangladesh.
- To hold discussions on difficulties in the imparting of mathematics education and petition appropriate authority.
- To liaise with similar councils or organization in Bangladesh and abroad.
- To maintain and promote unity, co-operation and brotherhood mathematicians as a group.
Program
- Book Review- All mathematics textbook published by National Curriculum and Textbooks Board (NCTB) from second till ninth standard textbooks were evaluated and changes were proposed by way of a petition to NCTB.
- Workshops mainly for mathematics teachers in schools were organized on 24 October 2008, in Manirampur in Jessore district; 7 October 2008 in Kustia city; 20 February 2009 at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology(KUET); 3 April 2009 at Bagerhat Government School, Bagerhat and on 17 April 2009 in Fakirhat in Bagerhat district.The last was primarily for school teachers of mathematics.
- On 6 February 2009, Second Khulna Mathematics Conference and Ganit Forum Khulna's 1st annual general assembly was celebrated in Khulna University. Famous mathematician, retired Professor Dr. Subrata Majumdar, Rajshahi University was made an honorary member of Ganit Forum Khulna and was awarded a Ganit Forum Crest for important contribution in different branches of mathematics.
- On 22 January 2010, 'Third Khulna Mathematics Conference' and Ganit Forum Khulna's 2nd annual general assembly was celebrated in Khulna University of Engineering and Technology(KUET). In this conference, first Issue of 'Ganitpotra' a regular Journal of Mathematics Forum Khulna was published.
