Galileo (yacht)
Galileo is a 50 meter (max. LOA with bowsprit is 55.98 m) 3-masted classic schooner built by Aegean Yacht in 2007 for a private owner. Galileo is ranked among the top 100 completed yachts in the world and is currently the 18th largest sailing yacht.
The concept of this luxury yacht belongs to Aegean Yacht’s owner and CEO Sinan Ozer who had envisaged and has created a modern yacht rooted in the 1930’s classic designs with her low freeboard, long overhangs and wine glass stern.
Galileo's three graceful masts are about 48 m tall and carry a total sail area of 1.100 m2. Her 10m wide steel hull and mahogany clad steel superstructure are topped with a full teak deck. The tennis court size decks include a spacious 100 m2 al fresco dining area aft, a Jacuzzi and water toys on the bow and a large upper sundeck.
The yacht’s traditional styled interior is finished in cherry wood. The salon on the main deck is over 80 m2, and includes two sitting areas and a dining table for 12 persons. Below decks are five cabins to accommodate 11 guests including two identical mastersuites (60 m2 each) equipped with king-size beds, corner offices, makeup tables, walk-in dressing rooms and all marble en-suite bathrooms with Jacuzzis. The other cabins are made up of one triple and two double VIP cabins. At the owners request an additional cabin was reconfigured into a diving room with all necessary equipment for Nitrox diving and direct access to a hydraulic platform/beach recessed into the side of the yacht amidships.
Galileo carries a full professional crew of 11.
Galileo has two 760 horse-power MAN engines which give her a top speed of 13 knots. The energy is supplied by twin KOHLER 55 kW and one emergency KOHLER 23 kW generators.
As of 2008 Galileo is registered in Bikini, the Marshall Islands.
