FUNDEBIEN
The Education and Welfare Foundation (, FUNDEBIEN) is a nonprofit organization which was created in East Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to help the needy. Although charitable work had begun two years earlier, through the Institute of Modern Technology (ITM), it was not until January 25, 2001, when a group of decent citizens willing to transform the society, met and formed its Board of Directors.
FUNDEBIEN was incorporated and officially legalized by the Presidential Decree Num. 949-02, issued by the Executive Power on December 16, 2002. FUNDEBIEN is registered in the National Planning Office (ONAPLAN) of the Technical Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic with the number 1831. In addition, it is registered in all government institutions required by the laws of the Dominican Republic.
Thanks to FUNDEBIEN, many young people today have a job, because at FUNDEBIEN they learned one or more of the courses offered at that Institution, such as Introduction to Computers, PC Repair, Home and Commercial Electricity, PC Networking, English as a Foreign language, French, Italian or Spanish. Others have received, free of charge, counseling, medicine, medical and dental services.
FUNDEBIEN has prepared over 3000 young people in the areas mentioned above. Moreover, in the area of language teaching FUNDBIEN prepared more than 2000 instructors and students. Also, in the technical areas, working in colaboration with the Institute of Technical and Vocational Training (INFOTEP), a course where more than 30 new facilitators graduated in various areas such as electricity, tailoring, cosmetology, massage therapy, crafts, sales, cashiers, and general didactics, among others.
It is important to note that most people who have gone through FUNDEBIEN have not had to pay for their studies. In addition, they provide free Internet service, secretarial services and job search and consultancy.
In the health area, FUNDEBIEN has distributed hundreds of boxes of medicine and medical and dental services for free to hundreds of poor people.
Among the geographic areas covered by the services of FUNDEBIEN are all the eastern neighborhoods of the Dominican Capital including Invivienda, Trinitarians, Villa Mella, Los Mina, Cancino Adentro, Villa Faro, Mendoza, Mandinga, San Isidro, Guerra, Villa Liberation Story Ozama, Alma Rosa, Los Tres Ojos, Admiral, Maquiteria, Las Americas, and Los Frailes. Also, the services have come to residents of Los Alcarrizos, Haina, La Victoria, Bayaguana and Monte Plata, among others.
