Fukuzumiro

Fukuzumiro was established in 1890 by Sawamura Takatoshi, a former samurai from Kumamoto province in Kyushu.

A great number of writers, calligraphers, and artists have loved staying in this hotel. For example, the writers and poets, Fukuzawa Yukichi (the thinker who established Keio University), Natsume Souseki, Shimazaki Toson, Iwaya Sazanami, Takeshima Hagoromo, Osaragi Jiro, Kawabata Yasunari, Satomi Ton, Yoshikawa Eiji, Hayashi Fumiko, Tamura Taijiro, and Hojo Hideji. Painters included, Kawai Gyokudo and Hirafuku Hyakusui. Calligraphers and calligraphic artists included, Meikaku Kusakabe and Nakamura Rnadai Jr. Actors also included, the great actor in “Muhomatsu-no-issho”, Tsumasaburo Bando.��

Design & Facilities

The building is three-story wooden building consisting of nineteen rooms with different designs.

Water is constantly pumped from only 100 meters under the ground. The temperature of the water is 63C, and we add spring water to cool it, never adding water that has been treated. The color of the water is clear, and feels good on your skin.
