AbOUT

FRIO is a chavacano word, which means “cold”. Though the band is never cold in its approach, the word FRIO is easy to recall and tells the people where the band came from.

Biography

Frio started as a small campus band in Zamboanga City. Formed through High School friendship, the band initially played at school events and special functions. Soon after, the band started to play at small bars and was eventually noted by a local radio station and was requested to play at campus tours in several schools in Zamboanga City. They also joined and won several band competitions including a City band championship for the year 2004 and a runner-up for the SMB Jinggaling Contest Regional Finals. From then on, Frio was offered regular gigs from local entertainment bars and became known in the City's music scenery which led it to play as front act for popular artists. Frio took their music to a higher lever by making original compositions six of which were initially recorded at Cagayan de Oro City. Now, the band with the help and support of family and friends, ventured on to Manila to become a part of the local music scene. The music of Frio can be classified under pop alternative genre and is unmonochromatic, with a variety of melodies and arrangements somehow united in conveying messages of love, truth, hope, desperation and at some point humor. Frio hails with Zamboanga City. Beginning with the hit single "ALIVE", all ten original songs in the album blend well with today's pop/alternative songs. the love ditty, which gained significant airplay from top FM stations in Metro Manila and other provinces, also landed on top spots on both radio and TV countdowns. During their early months, Frio was chosen to play as opening act for a series of Metro Manila Film Festival mall shows. After signing up with Alpha records, the band played more on several events including SM mall shows, bar tours and provincial events. Frio also appeared in music channels and TV shows, particularly noontime shows, which landed then on number 7 spot on ASAP 06 year-end countdown, and also nominated as "Breakthrough Artist Of The Year"(group) for SOP music awards 2006. The band also participated in MYX Mo! 2006.
