Fralthi-class Cruiser

The Fralthi-class Cruiser was a fictional capital starship in the Wing Commander universe. These cruisers served under the Kilrathi Empire and first appeared in the computer game Wing Commander.

In the fictional Wing Commander universe, the Kilrathi had a full force of almost two thousand Fralthi-class cruises in Kilrathi fleet, which formed the majority of the fleet, next to the Ralari-class Destroyers. The cruiser's history datesback all the way to the year 2504, when the Kilrathi initially premiered during a series of violent inter-clan civil wars. By 2654, the Kilrathi introduced a newer, modern revision of the Fralthi. These revised Fralthi are capable of being configured as a cruiser or a light carrier. The New Fralthi were first identified during a raid on the McLaren System. 1st Lt. Mariko Tanaka and Capt. Joseph Khumalo, pilots from The Famous TCS Tiger's Claw, engaged and destroyed the first example during a reconnaissance mission in the Pord Hedland system. Commodore Christopher Blair is credited with four confirmed Fralthi kills during his tour aboard the TCS Tiger's Claw.

The Terran Confederation was able to obtain an intact Fralthi-class light carrier in 2655, when Kilrathi defector Ralgha nar Hhallas defected at Firekka, bringing with him the KIS Ras Nik'hra. The KIS Kraj'nishk, another Kilrathi Fralthi-class cruiser, attempted to PReVENT the KIS Ras Nik'hra from defecting. However, Capt. Ian St. John, a Rapier II pilot from the TCS Tiger's Claw, engaged and destroyed the KIS Kraj'nishk.

The Fralthi-class Cruisers were replaced on the production lines by the more modern Fralthi II-class cruiser, which entered service around the Battle of Earth in the year 2668.

Wing Commander Academy

The Fralthi-class cruiser makes a very brief appearance in the animated television series Wing Commander Academy, Episode 7: Expendable. This Fralthi was designated the KIS Ras Nik'hra, Kilrathi defector Ralgha nar Hhallas previous starship he had commanded before he had defected to the Terran Confederation.

There are several minor differences from this version of the Fralthi than the Fralthi featured in the game Wing Commander I.

  • This Fralthi was referred to as being a destroyer. The Fralthi in WCI was a cruiser-class vessel.
  • Four dual mount laser cannons are visible during the Fralthi's brief appearance. The Fralthi in WCI was equipped with six laser cannon turrets.
