Four Winds Westward Ho
Four Winds Westward Ho is a private summer camp on Orcas Island, Washington. It features many activities, and goes for four weeks per session. It was started in 1927 by Ruth Brown as Four Winds, a camp for girls, with Westward Ho, the boys' camp, nearby. When the boys lodge burned down, the two camps merged to form Four Winds Westward Ho. Four Winds, or FWWH, as it is often referred to, has many different activities with music playing a central role.
The camp has a longstanding tradition of big-boat sailing, and has owned or leased such famous boats as the Schooner Martha, the Red Jacket, and the Adventuress. Four Winds' current boat is a 62-foot yawl named "Carlyn" which is takes campers on various trips around the Puget Sound and to Canada.
Campers at Four Winds Westward Ho wear uniforms. The girls are required to wear Bloomers at all times and live in small, rustic cabins with no electricity or running water. Boys wear blue shorts and matching shirts, and live in tents.
