Foundation games
The Foundation Games were founded circa 2002 by partners Evan Steiner and Tim Hunt. It is a Michigan based hobby gaming convention traditionally held in The Spring and fall of each year.
The convention first opened its doors in Okemos, Michigan with approximately 300 attendees and featured many events from the CCG and TCG industry; an area of hobby gaming which had largely been overlooked by the hobby gaming community with the exception of several big sellers such as Magic: The Gathering.
Following the success of that first show, the convention continued to grow. Three years later, the convention was drawing between 1500 and 2000 attendees and gained The Title as the largest gaming convention in the state.
It was around this time that Foundation Games, the parent company of the convention, acquired the rights to MichiCon. MichiCon has been a staple of local hobby gaming for more than 30 years; some claim it to be one of the oldest conventions of its type in the country. At one point in the 1970âs, MichiCon was the host of Origins.
It was also in this time period that Foundation Games began a short lived endeavor to run the gaming program at The Motor City Comic Con, one of the most predominant comic conventions in the mid-West. Their success was limited and they quickly abandoned the project.
In 2006, the Foundation convention series was put on hold. It was rumored that partners Tim Hunt and Evan Steiner were retained by an overseas game design firm, however this was never confirmed.
Steiner and Hunt were reportedly seen briefly at Origins 2006. They declined any interviews.
