Footmen frenzy

Footmen Frenzy is a custom map for Warcraft 3 in which there are four teams of up to three people each, one at each corner of the map. The main difference between it and a normal melee Warcraft 3 map is that units automatically spawn at your base every few seconds (by default, footmen, hence the name). Each player starts with 2000 gold, and heros can be bought for 1900 gold each. Players obtain gold from [...] other player's units, and it can be spent to upgrade one's base to produce better units, on individual non-hero units called creeps, on items for heros, or on additional heros.

History

Footmen Frenzy was created by a clan called Nohunters in late 2003. Nohunters is a clan of people that had been playing together since Starcraft. (Hunters was a popular StarCraft map that the future members of Nohunters believed took no skill to play.) HatoUp, also known as Fox, was the principal creator of Frenzy, though many people have helped him over the years. Since the initial 1.0 version, there have been a total of 42 versions, the most recent being the much anticipated 3.8, released March 2nd, 2005. A full version history can be found at 1, a part of the Footmen Frenzy Compendium. die.

Fake Versions

One thing that has plagued Footmen Frenzy almost since its inception is the rampant growth of fake versions of it, where SomeOne either got ahold of the unprotected version of a Footmen Frenzy map, or modified one of the original versions that were not protected. (Warcraft 3 maps can be "protected" so that their map data cannot be accessed and no one that does not own the original, unprotected version can modify it.) Many of these fake versions were called what the next upcoming version was going to be; for example, before Footmen Frenzy 2.0 came out, there were multiple maps called Footmen Frenzy 2.0 that were not endorsed, condoned, or made by Nohunters. Currently, the many versions that are called "Footmen Frenzy 3.7" are indeed fakes: there is no Footmen Frenzy 3.7, HatoUP skipped from 3.61 to 3.8. Other fake versions are called things like Footmen Frenzy Apocalypse, Footmen Frenzy Armageddon, and Footmen Frenzy 6.0.
