Football Player Elo Ratings

The Football Player Elo Ratings are an unofficial elo ranking of football players around the world, published by PlayerElo. First released by LivingMeta in 2015, the rankings take statistics such as recent performance, market value, season statistics and national team performance in account. Inspired by the World Football Elo Ratings, it is also one of the multiple spin-offs of the ranking and one of the most detailed ones, as it is being updated daily since its creation.

System

PlayerElo uses a Davidson 3-way system, with the probabilty framework explicitly modeling home win, draw and away win. For every match, the line-up is being read - starters, bench and coach, which are used to compress a team rating. Key features are:

• Lineup
• Gradual positions weighting (attackers weighted most)
• Coach Elo ratings integrated into team
• Asymmetric updates (upsets make more radical changes, with underdogs of said match gaining more)
• Margin-of-victory adjustment
• Per-league home advantage and offset collaboration
• Age-decline curves per position, with coaches exempt
• Counter-inflation decay so long careers and national team pools don't inflate

• New players inducted by team strength, not with the usual 1500

The rankings also use the EAR (Elo Above Replacement), an analogue to baseball's Wins Above Replacement (WAR).
