Foot towel
A foot towel is a small, rectangular towel which, in the absence of a rug, carpet or bathroom mat, is placed onto the part of the bathroom floor onto which the owner plans to first step after emerging from the shower, or, less frequently, bath (It seems merely academic to state that the towel's purpose is to more effectively dry both feet).
Usage
The use of the foot towel is not widespread. A reason for this May Be the fact that it tends to slip and slide around on the (frequently) tiled floor of the bathroom and does not have the same grip or friction of a rug, carpet or mat. However, some of the more recently produced foot towels include a specially designed under-surface, which improves grip. This negation of slippage makes it safer for the user. Producers expect that once The New design becomes more widespread, foot towel usage will become more prominent.
There are two main options to consider in the use of the foot towel:
- A large foot towel with space for both feet can be employed
- Two separate and smaller foot towels can be placed side by side to serve the same purpose (The obvious advantage of which being the ability to widen the distance between both towels to cater for those foot towel users with wider girth. The disadvantage being potential separation of the towels which could lead to frustration, inconvenience and, in some serious cases, the need to purchase a replacement foot towel). The use of two separate and smaller foot towels is also more likely to result in injury to the user.
Both varieties of foot towel are widely available in most good towel emporia.
Appearance
As with regular bath towels, foot towels come in a variety of colours. Anecdotal evidence seems to support the viewpoint that male foot towel users prefer darker, more masculine shades, while females prefer lighter pastels. Decorative foot towels can also be purchased, albeit at a higher price. Some foot towel manufacturers have been known to feature landscapes and cartoon characters on their products. The use of cartoon characters is an attempt to popularize use among children.
Technological development
The world of foot towels is an ever-expanding one. It would appear people's feet are just getting wetter. One example is the Integrated Convertible Foot Towel, which enables an individual to dry his or her feet without stooping or bending over, and without putting a towel or rug on the floor. It is also now possible to buy towels in pill format. The Towel in a Pill expands when exposed to water. Foot towels are not yet available, but it is certain to be only a matter of time.
