FirstCarbon Solutions Inc. (FCS) is a carbon-management company that help corporate organizations manage environmental sustainability risks. FCS provides consultation, environmental software solutions, data sourcing and carbon emission trading to the organizations which uses its services. The company has been utilizing its business process outsourcing capacity from its sister company to do carbon accounting. It also allows companies to outsource carbon measurement and reporting activities which are tasksthat takes time to collect and report on energy use and carbon emissions. The company have secured 3 International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certifications in order to standardize its operational and support processes. FCS is a subsidiary of ADEC Solutions which operates multiple businesses centers in North America, Europe and Asia.

Demand for carbon reduction

Carbon financing is a system wherein business organizations engages in a voluntary system to offset carbon emission by having companies who have went over the carbon emission limit buy offset CO₂ to companies who utilizes zero carbon emission such as renewable energy projects. In 2008, AbOUT 123.4 million metric tons worth of CO₂e reduction was purchased in this voluntary market, these yields to a market worth $705 million of carbon offsets. Although this practice has been considered as voluntary, not a lot of companies understand the system and how government policies and penalties take effect when one business entity goes over the recommended carbon emission limits. FCS has recognized this sustainability issue as a live business risk. Taking over sustainability management, this has allowed companies who utilizes their services to focus on their core business.

History

In 2007, ADEC Solutions started managing environmental data which translated in a requirement by their clients to track their carbon emissions and other environmental data. The following year, FCS was established upon developing different processes and technology remnant of that used for its existing clients as a carbon management outsourcing partner which also drove the business model of carbon process management. A team of environmental experts were assembled in 2009 to further improve on the processes and technology which were started already. Further service expansions were done in the form of environmental consultation and environmental software.
