Father Magnus Murray
Father Magnus William ("Max") Murray is a Catholic priest, school teacher and convicted paedophile in New Zealand. He is a prominent figure in New Zealand discussion of Catholic Church sexual abuse cases.
Early life
Murray was educated at St Mary's School in his hometown of Gore, then at St Kevin's College, Oamaru. He was ordained in 1949. Although in more recent cases of abuse it is normal for a member of the clergy to be "defrocked", a process known as laicisation, this has not been undertaken in Murray's case. A letter to Catholics in his diocese by Bishop of Dunedin Michael Dooley named Murray and another teacher and apologised for "suffering endured by victims and their families".
