Fair Exchange (Garfield and Friends)
Fair Exchange is an episode of Garfield and Friends. It originally aired on November 5, 1988.
Episode recap
After Garfield glues Odie’s head to a table, Jon punishes him by sending him to bed without food. Jon then remarks something about wishing Garfield could live in his shoes so that he could realize what it’s like putting up with him, while Garfield tells himself that he would like to switch places with Jon because his life isn’t so easy. They both then go to sleep.
They wind up in the same dream but with switched places: Jon is a cat (albeit with his own head on Garfield’s body) that thinks instead of speaks, and vice versa. After utilizing a flamenco dance to wake Garfield up so that he can make breakfast, Jon causes various acts of trouble including eating Garfield’s doughnut (after he already ate several pancakes) and shoving Odie off the table.
Garfield scolds Jon for trying to eat the neighbor’s pet, and soon afterwards, he gets several telephone calls about bad things that Garfield had done around the neighborhood. Meanwhile, Jon twists Odie’s ears up into a propeller and sends him flying out the window. After Garfield leaves the house to chase after him, Jon barricades the door.
During the chase, Garfield passes several neighbors that are complaining to each other about Jon’s antics. The neighbors blame Garfield, and they come after him just as he successfully catches Odie. Garfield then pinches himself and wakes up from the dream, and he runs to find Jon to make sure they really hadn’t switched places. At the same time, Jon’s perspective of the dream has him worried about going to the vet; then he wakes up and runs to find Garfield. They crash into each other with so much force that Garfield ends up in the back of Jon’s shirt, with only his tail emerging. Jon initially thinks that he’s still a cat, but then he pulls Garfield out. They are both relieved that they are their normal selves, and when Odie walks up, they are further relieved that they’re not him.
Goofs

- Jon barricades the door shut. However, when he walks outside to hang up a "For Sale" sign on the lawn for Lasagna, he was able to walk out the door as if he didn't barricade it shut.
Quotes
Mr. Atweiler: It’s that cat of yours again. He tried to eat my fern last night.
Garfield: That’s no big deal, a cat trying to eat a plant.
Mr. Atweiler: Fern is not a plant. She’s a toucan.
Jon: Well, look at that! That's really terrific! Garfield, how did you teach Odie to do that?
Garfield: I glued his head to the table.
Jon: Garfield, you have got to stop doing these things! I am going to send you to bed without your supper.
Garfield: I've already had my supper.
Jon: No, wait; you've had your supper already... Jon: Garfield, I'm so glad I'm me. (Garfield and Jon hug) Garfield: And I'm glad I'm me. (Odie barks at them) Garfield and Jon: And we're both glad we're not Odie
