History

The study in the 'Faculty of Medicine began in 1970 as a branch of the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt until the issuing of the Presidential Law #18 at 14-04-1974 on Establishing of Zagazig University as an independent Governmental University.

Mission & Vision of the faculty

Mission of the faculty

The goal of FOM-ZU is to provide the local, national, regional and international communities with competent physicians, able to identify and solve the community health problems, perform scientific researches to assure health promotion, be a changing agent to influence the health beliefs and behaviors and continue medical education in family medicine or in another medical specialty. The high quality undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, health services and community involvement will be our way to achieve our goal.

Vision of the faculty

As technology, health care and medicine itself change, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs are changing to provide the best physicians for the 21 century. Som of educational innovations that enable the medical education to meet the needs of modern practice of medicine including early introduction of clinical medicine, patient-centered learning curriculum and special emphasis on local health problems. Whereas we want to produce a very highly qualified physician for whom all careers are open, we will be proud when the majority of our graduate enter the family medicine/primary care field.

Faculty Counsel

The faculty council is headed by the Dean and the 4 Vice Deans, the head and one senior faculty member from every scientific departments, and the General Director of the University hospitals. The council also include representatives from the local community (MOHP), and the Military Academy. The Council meets at least one time per month to review the faculty policies and all relevant educational activities.

Educational Facilities

First Academic Stage Facilities

  • Presence of well equipped four Lecture Halls , each halls can hold up to 600 students in a comfortable teaching environment.
  • Presence of ten small classes room in Academic Departments, each classroom can hold up to 80 students in a well equipped and comfortable educational places.
  • Presence of AbOUT 32 different labs in the academic departments
  • Presence of different museum and show rooms for Pathology, Anatomy, Histology and Forensic medicine .

Facilities for the Clinical Stage

  • All the clinical teaching activities were don at Zagazig University Hospital ( seven large specific teaching hospitals ) that provide the opportunity to the students for direct clinical contact with a wide variety of patients , in outpatient and inpatient sections, in a well equipped classes, wards and skills labs facilities.

Libraries

    • Scientific Department library- Each scientific department has its own library and an ADSL internet connection.
    • Students Library: The student- Undergraduate-medical library was present at the faculty campus which contains more than 2000 text books . The library has a reading hall , photocopy services, and other facilities for the students.
    • Postgraduate Library: The postgraduate library contains the scientific periodicals, theses, indexes etc. The library has a reading hall , photocopy services, and other facilities for the students.
    • Digital Library: The digital library is separate place where the online searching facilities were provided through high speed internet connection lines ASDL. The library provide a full text and abstracts downloading services through subscribed and free services.
