Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Silesian University of Technology

Faculty of mathematics and Physics of the Silesian University of Technology is one of the 12 faculties existing at the SUT. The Faculty employs 10 Full Title Professors, 18 Associate Professors and 97 members having the PhD degree.

At the Faculty the scientific research are realized in the following disciplines:

  • solid state acoustics,
  • acousto-electronics and optoelectronics,
  • solid state physics,
  • semiconductor nanotechnology
  • applied nuclear physics,
  • mathematical and functional analysis,

  • simulation and modeling in management

  • multimedia and cryptographic systems.

The most important achievements of the Faculty include:

  • the foundation and development of the following laboratories: radioactive isotope C-14, waveguide and planar optoelectronics, optics of semiconductors and thin layers, semiconductor nanotechnology, photo-acoustics and acousto-electronics, computer science
  • status of European Centre of Excellence CESIS, and National Centre of Excellence NANOMET by Department Of Electron Technology
  • status of European Centre of Excellence GADAM by Department of Radioisotope Applications
  • status of National Centre of Excellence OptoAcustoSUT by Optoelectronics Department,
  • realization of the following European projects: CESIS and GADAM (within V FPEU), as well as ATIS and GOSPEL (within (VI FPEU),
  • long-term cooperation with research foreign research centers abroad in Austria, Denmark, France, Greece, Japan, Canada, Germany, Scotland, Sweden, Ukraine, Hungary, Italy, the USA, as part of both joint research projects as well as bilateral agreements, resulting in joint publications in the magazines from ISI Master Journal List,
  • cooperation with some national industrial and research centers like WASKO Gliwice, Energopomiar Gliwice, Cardiac Surgery Centre Zabrze, Silesian Medical University, PREVAC Rogów,
  • winning of the Grand Prix Brussels EUREKA 2007 and the gold medal Brussels EUREKA 2007 at the International Invention Competition Brussels EUREKA 2007 for : Spectrometric System of Early Recognition and Diagnosis of Cancer /this being the highest award a Polish invention has been granted in the 56-year-old history of the competition
  • winning of national awards and distinctions by students and PhD students of the Faculty for their master's and doctoral dissertations and gaining scholarships from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education
