Experimental Design Diagram

Experimental Design Diagram(EDD) is a diagram that is used to start and compose an experiment. It is used by scientists all around the world.

Experiments require planning and organization to produce reliable results. A good experiment has two variables- the independent variable is the one being tested, and the dependent variable is the result or change being observed. In an experiment, materials and conditions that do not change are called constants. Some experiments also include a control, a part of the experiment that is not treated and serves as a standard for comparison with the objects that are treated. An experiment with these components helps scientists to collect data and reach conclusions for further scientific study. A helpful tool in designing these experiments is the EDD. This diagram helps to identify the essential components of a good experiment.

Before they begin an expermient, scientists use what they already know to help them make an educated guess AbOUT what will happen in the experiment. This guess is called a hypothesis. A hypothesis predicts the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. It is often written as an "If...then" statement.
