Everest Cricket Club
Everest Cricket Club has played a significant role in an effort to promote the sport of cricket in the Midwestern region of the US. ECC was formed in the year 2001 which focusses its attention towards the promotion & development of cricket as a sport in Central OHIO. Club's main interest is to foster the needs of cricket loving people and share the true spirit of the game with every one interested in the game. A joint effort with other teams from Columbus has resulted in the formation of the Everest Cricket Club.
ECC has partaken in a yearly tournament conducted by Midwest Cricket Tournament (MCT). Since its inception in 2001, ECC has been to the finals 4 times, once to the Semi Finals and once to the pre-quarter finals. ECC is the only team in the Midwest Cricket Tournament to have won the championship in the very first year of its formation. They subsequently marched on to the second final in two years but finished runners-up. Three years later ECC repeated the feat by winning the MCT championship for the second time in 5 years. In 2006, ECC made it to the finals again hoping to regain the championship. Unfortunately ECC's dream run was stopped by COBCA in the finals.
ECC has solely established contacts with other cricket clubs in the US such as Sarasota International Cricket Club by inviting them to Columbus for a few games or being invited by SICC for a few friendly games down in Florida. ECC in association with SICC has managed to invite cricketing celebrities from the Caribbean such as Larry Gomes, Faoud Bacchus, Shiv Chanderpaul. Shiv Chanderpaul was made a Honorary member of ECC in August of 2006. Some members of ECC have regularly been invited to prestigious tournaments such as the Philadelphia Cricket Festival.
