Euphoria Show Choir
Euphoria are a UK based Show Choir, from North Somerset. They have become increasingly popular since their formation in September 2010, having performed on local BBC television and supporting Spelbound, on their 2011 UK Tour. The choir are now set to perform at the London 2012 Olympic Games and in New York City as International Representatives for the North American Show Choir Championships.
History
Formation: 2010
The idea for Euphoria came AbOUT when singing teacher, Rachel Walker was approached by some of her students to set up a show choir in response to the television series Glee. Rachel was contacted by childhood friend, theatre performer and producer Emma Mason. The pair were joined by local dance teacher Tina Kelly and her company, Footlights Performance Academy and worked together to set up the show choir. Before the choir had been officially formed, a gig was set up for Euphoria to support Welsh male choir, Only Men Aloud on the Bristol date on their UK tour. During July 2010, the creation of Euphoria was advertised locally and an audition date for that September was set up. After six successful singers and dancers joined, the choir has since grown to thirty two members as of January 2012.
2011: Spelbound, BBC and Fame Entertainment
Since its inception, Euphoria have performed at a number of prestigious venues. In April 2011, they were asked to support Britain's Got Talent winners, Spelbound on their UK tour at the Colston Hall in Bristol. Following this, they performed at St Georges, on BBC Points West and the Clifton College Christmas concert which was broadcast by BBC Radio Bristol. Euphoria had been filming their performances and posting the videos on their YouTube account, accumulating GeneRally positive reviews and comments from viewers. In May 2011, Euphoria received an email from Fame Entertainment, who organise the North American Show Choir Championships, who had noticed their videos and got in touch. Rachel received an email from the organisers stating that they were looking for International Show Choirs to perform at their competitions as guest performers, with a view to holding international competitions in the future. Euphoria had been selected to represent the UK in March 2012 in the Lincoln Centre, New York. Due to existing commitments, including a long-standing arrangement to perform at a fundraising event for Vine Counselling, a local charity, they declined the offer at first. However, they were then offered the opportunity to attend in March 2013, remaining the first UK Show Choir to take part in the event.
2012 - present
This increase in public profile has resulted in Euphoria being booked for numerous gigs across the United Kingdom, including headlining Gloucester's 'Party in the Park', and the Royal Albert Hall. A number of fundraising activities are planned for later this year to help raise the £40,000 required for the New York trip.
