Etnik Sentetik
Etnik Sentetik is an electronic music band from Istanbul.
The story of the group stretches back to 1995 when Sami Baruh and Mahmut Akyalçın first joined forces and began producing their singularly unique electronic noise. In 1998 together with assisting artists they gave their first performance as Etnik Sentetik at Kemancı Rock Bar, then, Istanbul's leading live music venue. This led to an ongoing adventure of weekly performances at aforementioned venue, gathering a growing number of fanatic listeners and groupies and dancers, who followed them to concerts, throughout the city / country. The group spread a fame of ever evolving performances, never repetitious, never easily digestible, but always exciting.
With Sami on vocals, sampler and synthesizer, Mahmut on synthesizer and vocals, and changing assisting artists on drums and percussion they continued creating their signature clear, detailed and intensely woven, yet dynamically unsettling and vibrant sound. The source of this sound was the fusion between Sami's inclination for clean production of minuscule details and magical melodies and Mahmut's contrary love of rough, unpolished, barsh sounds.
In summer 2002 they were joined by Hakan Çağlar, a long time follower of the group, who quit his own band in favour of working together. Fuelled with Hakan's unique drum performances, group maintained a strong and dynamic live performance, spicing and evolving it with diversity from night to night, and maturing to occupy a special borderline position in Istanbul's nightlife.
