Erik Gibson
Erik Gibsonborn 4/27/1977 in Berryville Arkansas is an American football Tight end for the Jacksonville Knights of the Florida Football Alliance.
High school career
Played High school football at Middleburg High school in Middleburg Florida. Was a two year Captain for the Broncos. Was a three sport athlete lettering in football, basketball, and track. Won the distinguished athlete award from the Marines and the Air force in football. Was All-District in the long jump, triple jump and 400 meter run. Named All-conference three straight seasons in track and was the teams MVP during the sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Was All-District in basketball and won the Coaches award two straight years as the Most Outstanding Player. Voted the Distinguished Athlete Award by the North Florida Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. He plays his heart out on every play. College career
Erik attended Valdosta State College on a full football scholarship. Eriks Senior yr college: he registered 13 catches, 165 yds, 12.7 AVG, 1 TD, 32 longest reception. Played in the PFA bowl(allstar game) as a senior and scored the only TD for his Blue Squad.
Professional career
After the 1998 NFL Draft the Green Bay Packers signed Erik to a undrafted rookie free agent contract. Erik was with the Packers through training camp just barely missing the final roster. Erik then in 1999 signed as a free agent with the Calgary Stampeders(CFL. In 2000 Erik signed with the Jacksonville Tomcats (af2) in 2000 he had 25 catches, 280 yds, 11.2 AVG, 2 TDs, Defensive: 7 UT, 9 AT, 16 total, 1 sack for -4 yds. 2 int, 17 yds, 2 pass breakups. 1 kickoff return 10 yds. Erik was voted Co-Ironman of the game in week two vs Tallahassee thunder, catching six passes including the game winning TD with eight seconds left in the game. Also having an interception in the Tallahassee game that helped ignite a tomcats come from behind victory. In 2001 he signed with the Tallahassee Thunder(af2)and recorded 36 catches, 389 yds, 10.81 avg., 7 tds. Defensive: 23 UT, 10 AT, 33 total, 4, int’s, 2 pass breakups. 1 field goal return for 9 yards.In 2002 he had 23 catches, 202 yds, 8.78 avg., 3 tds. Defensive: 17 UT, 10 AT, 27 total, 5 pass breakups. Changed to WR/DB (3 games ) 7 catches, 163 yds, 23.3 avg. 1 td. Defensive: 4 UT, 3 AT, 7 total, 3 int’s, 4pass breakups. Kick Returns: 3 returns, 43 yds, 14.3 avg. Erik went on to play for the Memphis Xplorers(af2)2003, Oklahoma City yard Dawgz camp(af2)2004, San Angelo Stampede(Intense Football League)2007, Galveston Thunderstorm(IIFA)/New England Surge(CIFL)2008.
