Eric Anderson (rollerskater)
Eric Travis Anderson (born December 31, 1974) was a World Champion roller skater. He placed at the World Championships multiple times as well as the Pan American Games, World Games and US Olympic Sports Festival.
Anderson began his skating career in 1978 at the age of 3 years old. He began competing at the national level at the age of 7. His first national title was in 1983. From then, he became the only American Male skater to win a national title in every age division. His first appearance on the US Team was in 1992. He then went on to be a member of the US Team for 10 consecutive years (1992-2001). During this time, he won 7 world medals; including becoming the World Champion in Men's Freeskating in 1997 in Reus, Spain. Anderson retired from competition after the 2001 season with a total of 13 national titles and 7 world placements. In 2007, he was inducted into the USA Roller Sports Hall of Fame.
The son of Karen (Herman) Anderson, a school teacher, and Donald Anderson, a firefighter, Anderson was born in La Mesa, California. He was an only child and grew up in El Cajon, California.
Anderson attended Valhalla High School where he was a member of the varsity football and baseball teams. In addition, he was involved in student council as a Minister of Public Relations as well as the Ensemble that would perform at a number of local, high profile events. Following his graduation from high school, Anderson attended the University of San Diego from 1993-1998, majoring in business administration, with a minor in Spanish. Anderson earned his Bachelor's of Business Administration in 1998.
Anderson married Tara Marie (Graney) Anderson on June 12, 1999. Tara was also a world champion skater. They met in 1992 as teammates on the US Team. In 1995, they began dating and were engaged to be married in 1997. They have two children; Aedan Shea Anderson (born on July 30, 2002 in Boston, MA) and Owen Graney Anderson (born on April 14, 2004 in Boston, Massachusetts).
