Equistone Partners Europe
Equistone Partners Europe, formerly known as Barclays Private Equity is a European private equity firm focused on investments in middle-market companies across Europe.
Prior to spinning out of the bank in 2011, BPE was the private equity division of Barclays Capital, the investment banking arm of Barclays plc. In November 2011, Barclays Private Equity was sold to its management team and is no longer part of Barclays Bank. Now the firm operates as Equistone Partners Europe. Founded in 1982, Equistone and its predeessor group at Barclays, have invested in over 350 businesses including Admiral Group and Dial-a-Phone. Typically, €500m was invested per annum in 10-15 transactions. Individual transactions usually ranged between €10m and €150m.
Equistone has offices in Birmingham, Manchester, Munich, Paris and Zurich with a team of 33 investment professionals and more than 50 employees.
Another division of Barclays Private Equity invested in infrastructure projects sponsored predominantly under the United Kingdom Government's private finance initiative and Public Private Partnerships (PPP). From the launch of the first infrastructure fund in 1997, Barclays Private Equity raised in excess of £1 billion across five dedicated infrastructure funds. This team is not part of Equistone and remained part of Barclays, operating as Barclays Infrastructure Funds.
Barclays Private Equity was voted the “Fund of the Year” in 2006 by the Private Equity Awards.
