History
Eolus was founded in 1990 in Osby, Sweden, by Bengt Simmingsköld, as one of the first commercial wind power developers in the country. The company erected its first wind turbine — a 0.2 MW unit on Öland — in 1991, followed by a 0.6 MW turbine on Gotland in 1996, and its first 1.8 MW turbine in Skåne in 2002. In 2004, the company relocated its headquarters to Hässleholm and celebrated its 100th installed turbine. In 2009, Eolus Vind was admitted to trading on Nasdaq First North, the same year it established its 200th wind turbine. In 2015, the company transferred its listing to the main market of Nasdaq Stockholm and entered the US market.
The company established operations in the United States through its subsidiary Eolus North America, Inc., headquartered in La Jolla, California. In 2020, Eolus completed the sale of the 46.5 MW Wind Wall 1 wind farm in California to Cubico Sustainable Investments, its first U.S. project developed, financed, and constructed by the company.
In July 2023, the company disclosed a pipeline of approximately 10 GW in offshore wind capacity. In December 2023, Eolus acquired a 2.3 GW pipeline of wind and solar projects in Finland. In June 2025, the company changed its name from Eolus Vind AB to Eolus Aktiebolag (publ). In January 2026, Eolus announced impairments on its project portfolio and revised its financial goals.
