Enrique Rodríguez Velásquez
Enrique Alberto Rodríguez Velásquez (19 November 1881 – 23 December 1940) was a Chilean lawyer and politician who served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1915 to 1921. A member of the National Party, he represented Ovalle, Combarbalá and Illapel before serving a second term for La Serena, Elqui and Coquimbo.
Early life
Rodríguez was born in Vicuña on 19 November 1881, the son of Vicente Enrique Rodríguez Galeas and Rosa Ester Velásquez Carrasco. He attended the Liceo de La Serena and the city's seminary before studying law at the University of Chile. He qualified as a lawyer on 14 January 1904.
His academic work focused on customs duties, an area that reflected his subsequent professional interest in commercial law.
Political career
Rodríguez joined the National Party early in his political career and became associated with its Monttvarista tradition. In 1912, he was elected as an alternate deputy for La Serena but did not take a seat in the Chamber.
He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for Ovalle, Combarbalá and Illapel for the 1915–1918 legislative term. He was subsequently elected for La Serena, Elqui and Coquimbo for the 1918–1921 term.
During his parliamentary career, Rodríguez served on the standing committees for legislation and justice, finance, and internal government.
After leaving Congress, Rodríguez devoted himself to agriculture in the Elqui area. He managed family-owned land in the region and developed part of the property for viticulture.
Rodríguez died in Santiago on 23 December 1940, aged 59.
