Energy Manager Training

Energy Manager Training - The Government of India has enforced The Energy Conservation Act, 2001 (No 52 of 2001, 29th September 2001) with effect from 1st March 2002. The Act provides mainly for efficient use of energy and its conservation and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. As per the Energy Conservation Act 2001, it is mandatory for all the designated energy consumers to get energy audit conducted by an Accredited Energy Auditor [under clause 14(h) and 14(i)] and to designate or appoint an Energy Manager [under clause 14(l)]. The Government of India has notified the list of designated consumers.
The Energy Conservation Act implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under Government of India, envisages creation of cadre of professionally qualified energy managers and auditors with expertise in energy management, project management, financing and implementation of energy efficiency projects, as well as policy analysis. It is a Law to force firms to make more profit and not an Act to control and monitor energy consumption of industry.

Standards & Labeling (S & L) - The Hon'ble Union Minister of Power, Shri. Sushilkumar Shinde launched the National Energy Labeling Programme on 18-May-2006, 10:00AM at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Center, New Delhi.

S & L - Standards & Labeling - Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power has developed a scheme for energy efficiency labeling of equipment, pending issue of Notification under clause (d) of section 14 of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 by the Central Government. The scheme has been developed in collaboration with all the stakeholders, and aims at Providing information on energy performance so that consumers can make informed decisions while purchasing appliances. Participation in the scheme is voluntary and currently applicable for the following equipment: Schedule 1 - Frost Free (No-Frost) Refrigerator, Schedule 2 - Tubular Fluorescent Lamps, Schedule 3 - Room Air Conditioners, Schedule 4 - Direct Cool Refrigerator, Schedule 5 - Distribution Transformer
NECA - National Energy Conservation Awards - To give national recognition to the selected Industrial units who have made systematic and serious attempts for efficient utilisation and conservation of energy
NCEC - National Campaign on Energy Conservation - The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Ministry of Power, Government of India) invites all Schools of India to participate in a painting competition at School, State and National level. The competition aims to motivate children towards energy conservation and offer them a chance to explore their creativity
National EM & EA Examination- The essential qualification for a Certified Energy Manager and Certified Energy Auditor would be the passing of a National Level Certification Examination, which will be conducted under the aegis of Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The national level certification examination, conducted by a National Certifying Agency, will establish a uniform criterion for the certification of energy managers/energy auditors and will also ensure that services of qualified persons, having the requisite knowledge on the subject, are available to the industry.
Temporary Accredited Energy Auditors- List of Energy Auditing Agencies whose names have been RECOMMENDED for Accreditation by the Accreditation Committee and approved by the Executive Committee of Bureau of Energy Efficiency. (List not yet notified by the Central Government. It can be used on voluntary basis & not for fulfilling any mandatory provisions under the EC Act, 2001 )
SDA - State Designated Agencies - State level Agencies
BEE Codes and Manuals
ECBC - Energy Conservation Building Code - The country is witnessing a surge in commercial energy consumption as a result of large investments, particularly in the commercial buildings sector, to meet the needs of our rapidly expanding services sector. It is essential that the growth in the commercial buildings and services sector is commensurate with needs, but in a manner that is also responsive to the energy needs of the building and the local climate. This requires that buildings are designed appropriately, which would reduce their own energy bills, as well as reduce the load on the electricity supply system. In order to do so, section 14(p) of the Energy Conservation Act 2001 empowers the Government to prescribe Energy Conservation Building Codes (ECBC) for efficient use of energy and its conservation in commercial buildings. The ECBC will set minimum energy efficiency standards for design and construction of nonresidential building. The ECBC will not constrain building form, functions, comfort, or the productivity of occupants. ECBC provisions GeneRally enhance comfort and occupant productivity. ECBC encourage energy efficient design or retrofit of commercial buildings so that they are designed in a manner that reduces the use of energy without affecting the building function, the comfort, health, or the productivity of the occupants.
Dr Kaupp's Corner- Albrecht Kaupp, from Germany, is the managing Director of the Indo German Energy Programme, IGEN, a technical cooperation between the Government of India and Germany implemented by the German Technical Cooperation, GTZ and Bureau of Energy Efficiency, BEE, as well as the Central Electricity Authority, CEA, under the Ministry of Power, MoP. He has received his Masters in Mathematics in 1979 and his PhD in Engineering from the University of California in 1983. As a Fulbright scholar he has been mostly interested in biomass gasification as well as combustion issues. For the last 20 years he devoted its entire time to energy efficiency, energy conservation and energy modesty issues on assignments in the Philippines and India. He is the founder of one of the most popular and comprehensive internet portal AbOUT energy efficiency in India.
