Empire City (Mafia)
Empire Bay is the fictional city for the setting of Mafia II. It is based on both New York City and San Francisco.
Geographical Information
The city is surrounded by countryside, and the map is going to be open ended, with an area of 10 square miles.
Empire City's Neighborhoods
The city will feature sights such as the Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building. Gyms will be featured, so the player can learn new combos and fighting styles. The player will be able to buy safehouses where they can store weapons and loot and use as a home.
Restaurants will be accessible to buy food like hamburgers and sandwiches and drinks such as coffee to restore lost health. Gas stations are also featured. Vito can go into clothing stores and purchase different outfits.
Law and Order
Laws, including traffic laws, must be obeyed, but the police interaction will be toned down compared to the original Mafia game.
Transport
Little is known, though the tram system may return. A screen shot has shown that the city has a rail line, which predominately is based upon the New York Central RR, as the train was in this livery. Motorbikes are also featured. Vito will also be able to hail cabs, meaning that the player does not have to drive or walk everywhere.
Cars will play an important part of the game, and upgrades can be performed on cars at the "Empire Automobile Shop". The player will have their own car, the registration plate of which can be customized. Unlike the previous game, the player will be able to unlock all cars automatically, without having to learn how to steal them.
Tinkering with cars is a new dimension for the game, and engines can be replaced, cars can be resprayed different colours, the license plates can be changed, interiors can be refitted, and so on. The boot (trunk) can be opened to store weapons and bodies.
Cars can suffer panel damage, get dirty (not a feature in the previous Lost Heaven) and explode. Dirty cars can be washed at a car wash. Cars can also run out of fuel, as with the previous game.
