Emily McDowell Studio is an American gift and greeting card brand founded by writer and illustrator Emily McDowell in 2013. Based out of Los Angeles, CA, their products are sold in retailers across the United States and internationally, as well as online.
Company history
Originally an art director and copywriter in advertising, Emily McDowell began writing and illustrating cards for friends and family as a side project, eventually selling them on Etsy. In 2012, McDowell created an “Awkward Dating” card.
In January 2018, Emily McDowell Studio was acquired by Knock Knock, fellow LA-based and woman-owned gift company.

A survivor of Hodgkin’s lymphoma (diagnosed and treated at the age of 24), McDowell was inspired to create a line of greeting cards that would help people find the right words to support loved ones facing serious illness and loss.
