Elpis Chorterou
Elpis (Greek Ελπίς, Hope) Chorterou (Greek: Ελπίς Χορτερού) is an association football club based in Chortero, Serres, Greece and competes in the Serres Football Clubs Association. It was founded on 1965 and its colours are green and white. The crest of Elpis is a green Joker (playing card) and was made because of the love of the villagers about playing cards. The club has become a Greek institution, hence the motto "Més que un club Griégo" (More than a Greek club). The team's famous motto is however "Η Ελπίδα πεθαίνει πάντα τελευταία" (Hope always dies last).
In the past Elpis has been Second (1981-82) and Third (1980-81) Division Champion of the regional amateur championship. After facing a plethora of problems the team was unable to create a competitive squad and abstained from the championship for many years. However the team competed normally once again in the 2003-2004 season without impressing, in a year of adaptation and has since been competing in the regional championship.
In the season 2007-2008 Elpis lost their chance of promotion to the Second (Beta) Division of the regional championship after losing valuable points in the final game of the season, a 2-2 tie with Karperi. However in a sudden change of the championship rules Elpis was allowed to compete in a play-off round and after two victories Elpis was granted promotion to the Second Division.
The team rose into publicity in late 2008 after a fan of the team uploaded the famous viral video "Elpis Chorterou Funny Mix" in August 2008 depicting funny moments of the fans and team in the 2004-2008 seasons.
2009-2010 Season
Elpis is normally competing in the Second Regional Division for second year in a row having won eight games so far and succumbed into eight losses. The team has also came into an agreement with renowned Bulgarian striker Stoyanoff signing him for 6 years for the price of 100 euro, marking it as the first transfer of a foreign player.
