Elias Fawcett

Elias Percival Fawcett, step-son of notable author Martin Amis was a London-born musician best known for his MusicAL talent and extreme left-wing political views who died of a [...] overdose in 1996, less than a month before his 18th birthday.

Fawcett was ACTIVE on the London underground music scene, gathering a cult following in the year leading up to his death. The singer Woodstock Taylor, who heard him play at the 12-Bar Club, said: "I felt like Jon Landau must have when he first heard Bruce Springsteen." He gained noteriety not only through his musical accomplishment, but also for his inflammatory, yet softly-spoken anarchic lyrics and public [...] use, culminating in his overdose after a performance in October, 1996.

His legacy lives on on the Elias Fawcett Trust, an educational trust for young musicians who's main work is giving young players a chance to perform before a listening public; the trust's chairperson, Natalia Jimenez, says, "Playing to an audience is one of the best ways to foster the skill and enthusiasm at the heart of music." It has been lauded as "a showcase for emerging talent" and as providing "focused support for promising young performers".
