Eleven Jinping

Eleven Jinping, a reference to the Chinese President Xi Jinping by a News Anchor on Doordarshan, an Indian public service broadcaster, apparently confusing Xi's name with the Roman numerals XI, became an embarrassing moment for the anchor that stated to be resulted into her getting officially debarred from news reading for a few months.

This embarrassing faux pas occurred in a late night news bulletin on The INDIAN State run television channel on 17 September 2014 during when the Chinese President was on an official tour to India.

"It is an unpardonable mistake," an official from the public service broadcaster told Reuters on the condition of anonymity, saying the anchor was employed on a CASUAL basis.

The official, apparently made an excuse for the incident by stating that late night bulletins are GeneRally read by casual newsreaders since the regulars do not prefer to work at that time. The Doordarshan presenter was employed as a “casual” newsreader, meaning she was not a full-time employee at Doordarshan News.
