Electrohomeopathy is a broad branch of Alternative system of medicines. It was discovered in 1865 by Count Cesar Mattei of Bologna, Italy. Since then it is being practiced in various parts of the world. In India it was introduced between 1870 and 1880. Many renowned Indian and foreign physicians – such as Dr. Yudhvir Singh, Dr. B.K.Paul, Dr. M.V. Kulkarni, Dr. Radha Madhav Halder, Dr. H.D.Banerjee, Dr. N.L.Sinha, Dr. Father Augustus Muller, Dr. Theodar Krauss, Dr. B.P. Saxena, Dr. Theobald, Dr. Anderschou, Dr. Samuel Kennedy, etc. used Electrohomeopathic medicines during their practice. Now though hundreds of institutions and dispensaries are running under different councils and healing the sick, it is still unknown to most of the people in our country.

As per Count Cesare Mattei, in human body there are two vital fluids which nourise the different parts of the body – Blood and lymph. Any change in blood or lymph must necessarily lead to a change in the normal state of the individual, and produce an abnormal or a pathological state. If on account of the instance and efficacious action, Electrohomeopathic remedies embrace a number of simple medicinal principles, which in virtue of their nature and their mode of action on the whole body and on the different parts of which it is composed, must respond to the combined requirements of the various morbid elements which by changing the normal state of the blood and the lymph, create various disease.

For the discovery of the specific nature of remedies, we are indebted to the great Hahnemann. Hahnemann’s doctrine, being founded on the use of single remedy, limits itself to fight against symptoms produced in a disease. As per him only one medicine is given at a time on the basis of symptoms produced in a diseased person. Some blindly followed the great master; while others accepted the chief doctrine, but rejected some of his minor view. Count Cesare Mattei was one of them. He went through the principles of homoeopathy very deeply and at last found some serious defects such as –

1.   The medicines had been tested upon healthy organisms but the disease organisms are more sensitive than healthy natures, and a change in the condition of the fluids of the body would be quite sufficient to completely alter the effects produced by a given drug.

2.   Homoeopathy does not worry for the disease. A Homoeopath deals with and seeks to remove the symptoms only. Mattei felt that the object which the physician should set before him should be not simply to remove the painful symptoms only but also to attack the causes of the disease.

3.   There were so many diseases, which Homoeopathy could afford but relieve.

Other than all these if we follow Hahnemann that a single remedy is capable of a single action bearing only one point, Count Cesare Mattei did not admit that this action can eliminate the cause of most diseases which are generally complicated. Count Mattei affirmed that the complex remedies which constitute the Electrohomeopathic Materia Medica, combat and destroy disease in its primary origin, so that, the treatment according to Electrohomeopathic no relapse need be feared, no return in altered form is possible. The medicines have efficient healing force, they destroy the germs of disease in the organism by purifying the vital fluids in which they circulate and grow. It is, in Count Mattei’s view, indispensible to bring several medicines into combined action and co-operation, which when harmoniously united, constitute a potent leverage capable of overcoming every obstacle which resists the restoration of the organism to health.

The combined action of several remedies is required to cure a disease which consists of a great number of symptoms due to disorders of the blood as well as of the lymph. Electrohomeopathic system  is endeavored to put within reach of the disordered blood and lymph the substance most fitted to cure them, and to rescue each special organ from the hostile forces which prevent the free exercise of its functions, without doing violent to it by the use of remedies which have no power of effecting a radical cure. There are remedies for each of general or local affections of the organism affecting on organ or a group of organs. Medicines by their complexity cover not simply the majority of the symptoms, but by the totality of them. They simultaneously remove at once the cause and the effects by their simultaneous action.

Each specific is formed of the spagyric essence of plants. In their combination they completely cover and control the group of organs they are intended to act upon. In the complexity of these remedies there are some which pass directly into the blood, and here all the medicines which each specific includes being brought into relation with suffering organs, unite their actions, the primary disease being in exact correspondence to the specific which is administered.

“The Electrohomeopathic system of medicines has two entirely distinct forms of action:-

a) Purely organic only felt by the organs which are primarily or secondarily attacked, but very comprehensive owing to the complex nature of the remedy.

b) A constitutional action, confronting the essential cause of the malady which it antidotes. The action may be utilized even during a condition of health, in the case of the scrofulous medicines, since the cause of every disease may exist in a latent form before any purely external manifestation of its presence has taken place.”-MATTEI

To maintain the balance of health, a healthy organism requires a variety of nutritive principles. A diseased organism must appropriate to itself not only one but many therapeutic agents. Hence Electrohomeopathic remedy is nothing else than a sort of restorative nutrition, given in the form of medicines.

When a chronic or acute disease attack the human body, the Electrohomeopathic or complex specifics of the remedies cover all the various symptoms of the diseases. The less seriously affected organs receive a proportionate degree of relief by one single specific, so in the case of treatment the alteration of other specifics are quite necessary in order to meet symptoms as they arise, until the totality of them has disappeared. If anyone organ is attacked, the Electrohomeopathic medicines work better in respect to any other system of treatment because the medicines infallibly supply to all the tissues of the affected organs the essential substances to cure the disease, irrespective of the particular symptoms.

The physicians having not a vast and cultivated intelligence and profound acquaintance with the primary action of drugs are often marked wrong in giving a single remedy of the homoeopathy whose action is prolonged on the basis of totality of symptoms, So, the problem arises – how can a practitioner less magnificently endowed select a remedy, and wait in a state of masterly inactivity for a long time like, thirty, and forty, or even more days till the reaction comes? Can we thus wait without hesitation, with no tremor of misgiving while the disease is advancing from day to day? And where shall we find the patient who possesses such confidence in the efficiency of the selected medicine as to be able thus to wait patiently and confidently for the result of such a protracted experiment?

If the medicines be selected with perfect accuracy we can calculate the marvelous result otherwise the medicine will not cover all the characteristic symptoms and the action of the medicine becomes almost inefficacious.

In Electrohomeopathy it is not necessary to wait for this for reaction, the medicines have, , a definite aim, an immediate action, they can never produce any serious aggravation; no reaction or crisis is necessary, consequently there is no need to suspend the action of the remedy.

Plants are always exposed to the action of air, water, soil, light and heat. The leaves and flowers appear and grow at one season (the springing time of their life). Similarly at certain seasons of the year human body including all organized nature, undergo medication peculiar to themselves. After a certain age our growth is arrested. So, also when the organism is cured the medicines will be no longer absorbed, and that without any injurious consequences so far as general health is concerned.

As per Hahnemann’s term of Psora, sometimes herpetic, or sometimes called as Scrofulous, (in Electrohomeopathy there are varieties of constitutions or, Temperaments) to which the specific group of medicines are applied. To the above given term of the principle constitution Anti-scrofulous remedies are prescribed. These morbid principles often inflict profound injury in the lymph and blood. For these Anti-cancerous are prescribed. Sometimes the blood vessels, the arteries and veins, and the general circulatory systems are affected by the destructive changes and these are principally opposed by Anti-angioitic remedies.

These above three conditions are only responsible for majority of diseases and with the help of above three kinds of remedies we oppose them and prevent the body from diseases condition. Other than these three group of remedies (Anti-scrofulous, Anti-cancerous and Anti-angioitic remedies) there are some general group of remedies. They are:-

The pectoral remedies: - They act on the bronchial tubes, in the pulmonary system and catarrhal affections.

The febrifuges: - They are responsible to cure all kinds of fevers including intermittent fever, as well as disorders of the liver and the spleen. They nicely act on nervous system too.

The anti-venereal remedies:- They act on all forms of venereal diseases, and even prevent from them.

The vermifugal remedies:- They destroy all varieties of worms, ascarides, even toenia and tricocepnales.

Beside all these above remedies there is liquid form of remedies having electric properties (in action) called Fluid Remedies (Electricities), which aid the internal cure.

By practical experience and analysis it is proved that all Electrohomeopathic remedies are totally harmless. During clinical experiments, it is found that one hundred to one thousand globules of the remedies (internally) or even one ounce of electricity if applied (externally) to any animal, no evil results had been observed. Similarly, a huge number of globules were given to healthy persons, no injury was found by some disorder.

Medicines in Electrohomeopathy give prompt result when applied externally as well as internally. The vegetable liquid electricities have an electric effect, as anyone may judge for himself. They are classified into positive and negative electricities. They have derived a great importance from the discoveries of Dr. Chazarian and Dr. Decle related to the polarity of man, for as we shall see later, they can be applied scientifically, instead of only empirically, to the great service of mankind, and can produce beneficial results.
