Elaine Barnard

Elaine Barnard, an award-winning writer and actress, was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1930. She is the daughter of George and Agnes Elliott, both deceased. She had one sister, Claire, also deceased.

Elaine attended Midwood High School in Brooklyn followed by a year at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1950. The next three years were spent studying drama at the U. of Washington in Seattle where she received her Bachelor of Arts in drama.

In 1954, she married Ernest Barnard, an engineer. After a six-month honeymoon in Europe, they settled in California. Their son, Bryn, was born in 1956. When Bryn was old enough to attend pre-school, Elaine enrolled at California State University in Los Angeles where she received her teaching credentials. The next eight years were spent teaching in California schools.

In 1969, Elaine enrolled at the University of California, Irvine where she received a Life Teaching credential plus a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1971. This launched her current career as an actor-writer.

Elaine has received numerous awards and recognition for both her writing and acting. She has traveled extensively and is an advocate of exercise for healthy living.
