El Segundo (film)
El Segundo is the story of a wealthy Tejano rancher (Pedro Armendariz, Jr., Once Upon A Time In Mexico, The Mask of Zorro), who is seeking a jewel that will bring him eternal life, and how his quest threatens to tear apart the community that depends on him. Sam (Hank Jacobs, Rounders ), a misfit oil rigger hired to retrieve the jewel, bears witness to the passion it inspires, and the destruction it leaves in its wake, as he falls for the rancher's spitfire daughter, Delicia (Alana De La Garza, Law & Order, WB's The Mountain). It's a story of greed, mystery, and desire set in the unforgiving brush of Southeast Texas. Also starring Tejano singing legend Carlos Guzman.
Directed by Hank Jacobs. Written and Produced by Mr. Jacobs and Alice, Texas native Roy Misael Trejo, El Segundo was shot on location in Alice, Texas and neighboring San Diego, Texas in 2002.
El Segundo makes extensive use of Tejano music in the film. From being shot in Alice, Texas- "The Birthplace of Tejano Music," to having legend and Tejano ROOTS Hall of Famer Carlos Guzman of Los Fabulosos Cuatro co-star in the movie, Tejano music permeates all aspects of the picture.
The soundtrack includes music by Hometown Boys, Amable, and Tejano ROOTS Hall of Famer Juan Antonio Sifuentes. Also included is a song by Austin, Texas based Patricia Vonne, who is in the cast of El Segundo, and who brings her own flavor and sensibility to the art form.
