Egged bus 391 ambush

The Egged bus 391 ambush was an attack on Egged bus line 391 from Tel-Aviv to Eilat, an Israeli civilian passenger bus, carried out by a Palestinian Fedayeen squad in 16 August 1956. Three Israeli soldiers and a female civilian passenger were shot dead by the attackers who ambushed the bus. In addition, three other civilian passengers were injured in the attack.

The attack

On Thursday, 16 August 1956, a Palestinian Fedayeen squad infiltrated into Israel from Jordan. The militants reached Be'er Menucha in the Arava region and prepared an ambush in a ditch on the side of the road.

Around noon, Egged bus line 391 from Tel-Aviv to Eilat accompanied by an IDF military vehicle approchad the ambush. As it was passing Be'er Menucha the gunmen opened fire on the bus and killed three Israeli soldiers and a female civilian passenger. In addition, three other civilian passengers were injured in the attack.
