Effort value points

Effort Value Points ( a.k.a. EVs ) are hidden points in the pokemon video game. These hidden point can help increase the power of a pokemon.

What are Effoert Value Points?

Every pokemon in the video game (other than ones a player owns) has EV's in them. For example, a rattata has 1 speed EV point. Every pokemon has 1 or more EV's that can help with each stat. Some may have an ev for multiple stats ie. Xatu has 1 ev point for speed, another for attack.

Getting EVs

Every time a pokemon defeats another, that pokemon gets in EV for that specific stat. For example, a pidgey defeats a rattata, and gets 1 ev for speed. Now, when a pokemon gets 4 EV's for a specific stat, that pokemon gain an Extra Point towards that stat. Lets say a pidgey defeats 4 rattatas and gains 1 point, when that pidgey levels up, the speed will go up, so instead of going up by 2 in that specific stat, pidgey will go up by 3. This can make a heavy diffrence in the power of your pokemon.

A pokemon can olny get a maximum of 510 EVs per pokemon, and olny 255 per stat ( although 255 is not divisible by four, so 3 evs would be wasted). If any stat is maxed out, it will go up 63 points (not at one time, but gradually after each level up).
ie: 2 level 100 pidgeots may not be on even ground. If one was ev trained properly, it can have an advantage in stat points. The untrained one may have 250 speed, but yours will have 313, it may have 195 attack, but yours will have 257.

Vitamins also help EV train, each vitamin gives the pokemon 10 EV points, but a pokemon will olny be able to take 10 vitamins per stat.

If a pokemon has a macho bracer on, it will multiply EVs by 2, so when that pokemon defeats a rattata, youll get 2 speed EV's, instead of 1. If you have pokerus, a rare disease in the game, it has the same effect as a macho bracer. Put the together and you get 4 times the EV points. For example, one rattata defeated is 4 evs.

Here are a list of rules: 510 ev points per pokemon, 255 maximum per stat
51 vitamins can be given to a pokemon, 10 per stat
EVS MUST BE DONE BEFORE Lv. 100

Base stats

Some pokemon are naturally weak because of base stats (stat points a pokemon has at lv. 100 without ev training), so they never will be strong, ie: sunkern. An average base stat for one stat is 85.

Here is a chart of some strong pokemon, notice their strong attacks and how abnormally strong they are.
{| class="wikitable" |- ! mewtwo ! groudon ! dragonite |- | base stat= 680, | base stat= 670 | base stat= 600 |- | sp. attack= 154 | attack= 150 | attck= 134 |}
