Ed Reilly (karting)
Ed Reilly is a Karting sensation of only thirteen years of age. He was born in Paisley, Scotland, and he started Karting after receiving a Mini-Moto motorbike for Christmas. He won UK National Championships U11 in 2005 and in 2006 and U12 in 2007. Later he won NZ U15 nationals twice, then coming a close second in the Australasian final losing to Mark Prachitt current world number one. Ed lives in Palmerston North, New Zealand.
Scottish Karting
For his birthday Ed's parents got him a full spec Mini-Moto racer. Ed's Uncle took him to local track, Knockhill race circuit. He then competed in a friendly race winning and beating some of the more competitive racers. Stevensons Karts offered Ed a spot on the team racing four wheeled Go-Karts. Ed then proceeded to win most regional races until Mercedes-AMG recruited him for Nationals. While warming up for the 2004 Scottish National Kart Champs Ed broke three of his knuckles in a Karate accident. He could not compete in the event. He Then went on to win the ScotKart Nationals event to go on to UK Champs. He won 2005, 2006 and 2007 for Mercedes.
New Zealand Karting
While in New Zealand Ed has 'retired' for a more relaxing life of rugby and cricket, but not after winning NZ U15 nationals twice with Mazda, then finishing second in the Australasian final to world number one, fifteen year old Mark Prachitt.
Crashes
Ed has Crashed a number of times due to his slightly daring driving style. In the 2006 East Renfrewshire Competition he rolled his Kart twice, as the engine caught on fire. At Manfield Raceway in Feilding, New Zealand, he smashed into Dunlop corner at over 130kph. He has broken several clutches on the £110,000, AMG Kart.
World champs
Ed is currently ranked thirteenth in the world after the Under fifteen world championship, he lead the race for several laps but had to pit in for an emergency oil change. He should be competing in the New Zealand Grand Prix, but due to insuffiencent managegment, Youth Kart might not be a part of the 2010 schedule.
