Ebony March is an American-born writer, film director and comedienne.
Her directorial debut, Berrywood (1997), costarred ''Dawson's Creek and Life Unexpected actor Kerr Smith. She later directed projects starring Dallas'' ingenue Charlene Tilton and also scream-queen Kat Lester, known as the "Lady in Lavender" in Phantasm. March has appeared in bit parts in each of her films.
Literary Pursuits
March's debut book,
1933 , was released in April 2010. She began writing the collection of poetry at the age of nineteen and completed it just months after her 33rd birthday. The book was released in tandem with
Before, When We Were Libertines which is a collection of provocative, adult-themed short stories. In January 2011, it was announced that March's third book and second collection of poetry,
Watch Me Slowly Go Insane would be released in late February/early March.
Journalism
In January 2000, writer became subject when Citysearch.com published a feature about March. The piece was written by Karen Gladstone and appeared in the "New York Stories" section of the site. Recent years have seen March make a career shift into journalism. She has held freelance producer assignments at KABC-TV in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times, was a freelance photo editor at Getty Images, a red-carpet reporter for Us Weekly and was a blogger for the Westside Eclectic in Santa Monica (a comedy theater similar to the Upright Citizens Brigade) from 2007-2009. Education
During the late 1990s, March attended Film / Video Arts where she received instruction from then-unknown filmmaker Dylan Kidd (who later directed Roger Dodger) as well as cinematographer Joaquin Baca-Asay. She is a board-certified natural healthcare practitioner who also holds a certification in Financial Management from Cornell University and is certified in Sustainable Energy by Stanford University.
Early Years
While living in New York, March had a two-year stint as a makeup artist. She worked for fashion photographers Lara Rossignol and Shoji Van Kuzumi. In 1998, Rossignol shot March for the cover of sportswear giant Reebok's Foot Locker promotional catalog. After moving to Los Angeles, March took a job working for a celebrity answering service in West Hollywood, CA. She provided clerical duties and answered the personal home phone lines for a number of notable people including Denzel Washington, Sylvester Stallone, Eddie Murphy, Brett Ratner, Antoine Fuqua, Sherry Lansing, Stephen Stills of Crosby, Stills and Nash and Jack Nicholson.
Television Appearances
To date, March has appeared on numerous television programs including MTV's
12 Angry Viewers and
Subterranean , Comedy Central's
Beat the Geeks and CBS's venerable news magazine,
60 Minutes. She was part of a panel interviewed by the late Ed Bradley regarding sex education in U.S. schools.
