East Bay Restaurant Supply, Inc. is one of America's largest foodservice equipment and supplies company headquartered in the Jack London Square of Oakland, California.

Founded by J. E. Breznikar in March 1934, the company's customers include hospitality industry, healthcare providers, government agencies, educational institutions, corporate offices and the general public. East Bay Restaurant Supply currently ranks thirteenth in 2008 Distribution Giants Top 100 in Equipment and Sales.

History Timeline

  • In 1931, J. E. Breznikar and William Corbett purchase the assets of T. J. Topper Company's Oakland branch.
  • In 1934, J. E. Breznikar acquires Corbett. The company's name changes to East Bay Restaurant Supply.
  • In 1943, J. E. Breznikar goes on to serve in WWII. His wife, father and sister continue to run the company business.
  • In 1944, J. E. Breznikar returns from the war and begins to get actively involved in Food Service Equipment Industry events.
  • In 1954, East Bay Restaurant Supply relocates to a larger location.
  • In 1955, J. E. Breznikar introduces novel approach to business development.
  • In 1965, the company adds its first credit manager.
  • In 1970, the second generation begins joining the company.
  • In 1975, East Bay Restaurant Supply expands and relocates to a larger (current) location.
  • In 1985, the management of the company passes on to the second generation.
  • In 1997, the company embarks on an ecommerce initiative. ChefsFirst website is born.
  • In 1998, the third generation begins joining the company.
  • In 2000, East Bay Restaurant Supply adds 50,000 sq. ft. to its existing facility which brings the total facility to 110,000 sq. ft.
  • In 2005, East Bay Restaurant Supply opens its second showroom/warehouse in Sacramento, California.
  • In 2007, East Bay Restaurant Supply - Sacramento opens its new Culinary Center.
  • In 2008, East Bay Restaurant Supply expands its office space near its headquarters in Oakland.

California Cooking

In 2006, East Bay Restaurant Supply launched California Cooking, Inc. (CCK), the company’s first private label brand of full service wholesale equipment distribution, sales and service with the intent of providing after-sale technical support in Northern California.

In 2008, California Cooking acquired Ice Machines, Inc., of San Francisco and since becomes the only company in the San Francisco Bay Area to offer commercial ice machine rental and refrigeration services.

Environmental Record

From April 7-9, 2008, East Bay Restaurant Supply partnered with Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) to host a "Go Green & Save" annual open house. The open house and sale featured Energy Star qualified and energy-efficient commercial foodservice equipment. In addition to promoting energy-efficient products and educating consumers and employees on the value of the Energy Star program, the company also introduced PG&E energy savings rebate and incentives programs to business owners.

Affiliations and Memberships

East Bay Restaurant Supply is a member of Foodservice Equipment Distributors Association (FEDA). In June 2008, East Bay Restaurant Supply became a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
