Easmon family (Sierra Leone)
The Easmon family is a prominent Krio family in Freetown, Sierra Leone. They are descendants of one of the first African American settlers or Nova Scotians in Sierra Leone.
Background and History
The patriarch and matriarch of the Easmon family was William Easmon and O'Jane Easmon who were one of 1,192 settlers who arrived en route from Nova Scotia via the American South. William Easmon was one of the successful settlers and his son, Walter Richard Easmon was the father of two prominent Krio doctors; John Farrel Easmon and Albert Whiggs Easmon. Walter Easmon was born in 1824 and died in [[1884]. Walter's older half brother, William Easmon was born in 1807 to a different mother, Mary Easmon. John Farrel Easmon was one of the most successful West African doctors in the Gold Coast, and his son McCormack Easmon was also a successful doctor and historian. Albert Whiggs Easmon was also a successful doctor and his son Raymond Sarif Easmon was a notable poet and writer.
