Duval County Soil and Water Conservation District

The Duval County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), located in Duval County, Florida is a government entity dedicated to encouraging productive use of land, water and air resources in the county. According to a summary taken from Florida Statutes Ch. 582, the Board's powers include conducting surveys, investigations, research and demonstration projects relating to soil and water conservation (in areas like irrigation, water quality, and soil erosion).

District's Budget Cuts

The District was formerly supported by the City of Jacksonville's public service grant program. However, due to recent budget cuts, the City was unable to continue this funding arrangement. The District is now currently seeking out other sources of funding to allow it to continue serving the public. The district's official website allows for individuals and businesses to offer donations to help cover the cost of ongoing programming and activities.

Board of Supervisors

SWCD supervisors do not receive monetary compensation, and, for the most part, conduct their activities on their own time. Supervisors are members of a five-person board for the district.

They are elected to at-large groups by the citizens of Duval County. Their terms last 4 years.
