Dr. Louis Vos

Dr. Louis Vos (December 31, 1945) is a Professor of History at the Katholieke University of Leuven in Belgium. He has also taught at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States as a visiting Professor. He is widely considered to be an expert in the field of the history of nationalism, specifically Flemish nationalism. He himself was a participant in the Flemish nationalist movements of the 1960's, in which he was ACTIVE as a student leader. He also has been involved in the Flemish Catholic Youth Movement. At the University of Leuven, he currently teaches the History of Poland and the History of Nationalism, including Flemish Nationalism. He is due to retire at the end of the academic term, 2010. Among other contributions during his career, Vos was head of the University's History Department from 1996 to 2001. Vos is considered to be the academic successor to Lode Wils, another prominent Historian who wrote on Flemish nationalism. It could be argued that Vos is the leading scholar on Flemish nationalism today. As his retirement nears, Vos has appeared at Cantus, a Belgian tradition of drinking, speeches and song, to exhort his students and collegues to develop ties of friendship and scholarship. He is an avid fan of the song "Little Boxes", which he periodically sings in class .
