Dr. Faqir Muhammad

Dr. Faqir Muhammad (1925–2007) was a scholar, first Pakistani Ph.D in Public Administration from United States, founder of NEPA National Institute of Public Administration (now National Management College).

Born in Eastern Punjab, he migrated to Pakistan after partition of India. He had to lead a miserable life in newly born state but did not lose heart. He started his career as a low-level position in Board of Education, Lahore. He enhanced his qualification and was promoted Superintendent as well. He got admission in Karachi University and settled in Karachi, the then capital of Pakistan. After Post Graduation, he was successful in getting scholarship, and left Pakistan for United States.During his stay in USA, he worked as intern with Governor of a State of USA. Later on he returned Pakistan and founded NEPA. After passing a few years in Pakistan, he returned USA where he served as honorary Assistant Secretary General of UN with Mr. U Thant 3rd Secretary-General of the United Nations( In office, November 30, 1961 – December 31, 1971)
