History
DPCI was founded by Joseph Bachana in April 1999. At that time, many different types of organizations with large amounts of digital content were beginning to discover the benefits of Digital Asset Management and Content Management Systems. Before he founded DPCI, Bachana began his career in the late 1980s in the Production Technology Group at the New York Times. He also worked as a technical services manager for the Associated Press for AP AdSend, as a senior project manager at I.M.A.G.E. Inc. and as a senior account manager at Inacom. Mr. Bachana is a certified project management professional (PMP), a certification earned from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Organization
DPCI is a privately-owned debt-free New York corporation. DPCI has also been a participating member of the United Nations Global Compact since 2005.
Employee Education
To further the development of employees, DPCI offers incentives for its employees to complete classes outside of working hours related to their duties in the office. Project managers work to become accredited by the Project Management Institute (PMI), developers maintain certifications in Microsoft, Java, PHP and MySQL technologies, and field engineers have become expert certified in various digital asset management technologies as well as Adobe Systems (Creative Suite) and Vjoon (K4 Publishing System) software products.
Clients
DPCI’s clients fall into six categories – media and entertainment, universities and educational institutions, corporate marketing communications, advertising agencies, museums and cultural institutions, and B2B (Business-to-Business) publishing.
Web Content Management Systems
DPCI implemented a Web Content Management System for several of NYU Langone Medical Center's Departments, including the Department of Pathology, The Cancer Institute, the Cardiovascular Institute, the Cardiac Surgery group, and the Child Study Center. The Drupal-based solution enables the department to publish educational, research and patient care information more efficiently and effectively.
Digital Asset Management
Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. selected DPCI to help choose a Digital Asset Management system to ease the transition from a film-based to an all digital workflow in managing all catalogs, direct mail and other collateral. DPCI also built a connection between the digital asset management system and Ethan Allen’s Web content management system. Additionally, Ethan Allen was able to further leverage their digital asset management system to archive a wide variety of digital photos, images and ancillary files as well as management of numerous corporate catalogs. Ethan Allen used DPCI’s standard vendor evaluation process to aid Ethan Allen in choosing the right digital asset management system for its needs. In this case the chosen product was North Plains Systems’ Telescope Enterprise.
Multi-Channel Systems
Thomson Reuters Healthcare selected DPCI to implement Typefi Publish, an automated publishing platform that supports the development of richly formatted, brand-compliant documents, to reduce the amount of time and cost associated with producing its wide range of handbooks. By integrating Thomson Reuters Healthcare's product selection tool with a customized Typefi Publish front-end application, DPCI was able to streamline the publishing process while adding a new level of customization capabilities. With Typefi, a 1,000 page handbook is produced in a matter of hours rather than the several months that it typically took to have a project like this completed.
DPCI was commissioned by Comcast Cable Corporation to build a comprehensive online-to-print publishing system, including new, self-service tools designed to simplify the process of creating targeted marketing and advertising tactics. The online publishing solution leverages DPCI’s Digital Flywheel, a Microsoft .NET framework on top of Microsoft SQL Server, Adobe InDesign Server and QuarkXPress Server. The interface incorporates Web 2.0 technologies such as AJAX, creating a user-friendly interface that is similar to a desktop application, and is integrated with OpenText’s Artesia Digital Asset Management system.
Workflow Management
DPCI implemented the K4 publishing system at Hanley Wood to increase collaboration between its art and editorial teams, reduce editing time and improve the interaction among the various departments. Within six months, DPCI’s Adobe-certified Field Engineers guided more than a dozen publications from Quark to InDesign and onto the K4 system with training and template production and review. DPCI further integrated K4 publishing system with Hanley Wood’s chosen Web content management system, which was SDL Tridion.
