Doranne Alden

Doranne Alden (born 1963 in Malta) is a graphic designer and artist. As an artist Doranne Alden's preferred medium is watercolour and ecolines and enjoys working with vibrant and bold colours.

Early Career (1980s)

Doranne Alden first started painting as a child and was greatly inspired and influenced by her father, Albert Caruana (1928-), also a watercolourist. Her father's love of art and interest in antiques and art books helped to fuel her love for impressionist artists such as Cézanne and the illuminist artist, Joaquin Sorella Bastida. At the early age of 14, Doranne Alden insisted on attending art school. So after finishing her art related studies at the Polytechnic of Malta, she went on to work as a graphic designer with several advertising agencies for around 15 years. Doranne Alden eventually ran her own advertising agency along with a partner for 5 years. Towards the end of 1980s, while working as a freelancer, Doranne Alden published photographic posters, postcards and calendars which she distributed around the Maltese Islands. At the same time she carried on painting and began exhibiting her work from 1990 onwards.

Career to Present Day

In 1996 she moved to Germany and lived there with her family for almost 7 years. While living there Doranne Alden taught art to adults and held several solo, and joint exhibitions and took part in collectives. Her work has been exhibited in Austria and Germany, Australia, and Malta and her paintings can be found in private collections worldwide. In 2006 she won the Maltese Society of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce Silver Palette Competition in the watercolor section.
