Doovid Barskin

Doovid Barskin was born in Martinsville Indiana on March 31, 1920. His parent were Samuel and Pauline who came from Russia. He had a brother named Revin who was ten years his senior but they were very close. Doovid joined the navy during WWII and was stationed at Guadal Canal. After his discharge he moved to California and went to work in a war factory where he met his first wife Jill. Jill was a tap dancer which they called hoofer back in those days and was signed to Paramount pictures at the age of 16.


They had two children Donna and Bobette. The lived in West Los Angeles down the street from Lloyd Bridges. Doovid started in radio and did sound effects at first. He was the sound of the heart in Orson Wells classic, "The Tell Tale Heart. He was the sound of Gene Autry's horse. He did sound effects for Jimmy Durante.

He started his own Agency for Actors in the early 50's called The Barskin Agency and was an agent to Leonard Nimoy, Dodie Stevens, Jimmy Dodd of the Micky Mouse club,
Aaron Spelling, Hank Williams jr., to name a few and was close friends with Peggy Lee and many stars of that era.

Later in the 60's he went to work for Capitol Records and became one of the VP's in business affairs. He was one of the men who finalized the contract with the Beatles to Capitol.


Billboard Aug 12, 1967 tells of Doovid a former artist and talent Executive of Warner brothers studios moved to Capitol Records. Playboy did a full page spread about him and his career on the back of one of the centerfolds.

In the 70's he brought his daughter Donna into work with him and she stayed about 7 years. 
He partnered with Neely Plumb; who was Eve Plumb of the Brady Bunch's father; and Doovid's brother Revin where they handled actors and musicians. 

His agency was one of the first to represent camera men, i.e. Richard Glouner. Earlier he worked with Myer Mishkin's agency and brought in Lee Marvin.

Doovid's second wife was his high school sweetheart Clarice. They were married for 13 years and lived in Tarzana. Doovid became president of the Deauville Country Club at that time.

He was an avid  and talented golfer.He married his third wife Beverly Sullivan and moved to Oxnard by the beach where he died of Cancer on August 5th 1990.
