Doomship

Doomships are military aircraft employed by Bowser in the Mario series of video games produced by Nintendo. Doomships first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 as "boss levels" for each of the eight worlds, and have since appeared in several other video games, including Super Mario World and Super Mario Galaxy.

Design

Doomships are large, wooden aircraft equipped with multiple Bill Blasters or other types of cannons, usually along the outer hull. Each Doomship has a small cargo hold at the aft section.

Appearances

In Super Mario Bros. 3, Doomships appeared after completing all, or nearly all, of the levels in each world. The Doomships here are much larger than those in other games, and are riddled with Bill Blasters and cannons. Rocky Wrenches also pop up on these Doomships periodically. The aft cargo hold of the Doomships housed each of the seven Koopaling, which Mario was required to defeat in order to pregress.

In Super Mario World, one level requires Mario to enter a Doomship which has crashed in Soda Lake. The interior is much like the exterior, sans the weaponry. Instead of Bill Blaster, cannons, and Rocky Wrenches, the sunken Doomship is teeming with Boos and other spirits.

In Super Mario Galaxy, Doomships (referred to as Airships) are much smaller than the previous incarnations, holding only three or four cannons and few, if any, Bill Blasters. Patrolled by Goombas and Koopas, Doomships are often the stage for duels with Bowser Jr. or the Magikoopa Kamella. In Super Mario Galaxy, Doomships have the ability to travel throughout space.
