Donnie Hume

Donald Corbin Hume (born August 29, 1985 in Fairfield, California) is a professional baseball pitcher in the Seattle Mariners organization. He was the Mariners' 8th round selection in the June 2007 Major League Baseball Draft; signed by Mariners scout Tim Reynolds.

Amateur career

Hume graduated from Vacaville High School in June, 2004. He earned All-Monticello Empire League honors as a senior and league's Offensive Player of the Year.

He played two seasons at Long Beach State and transferred to San Diego State University in 2007. Hume missed part of season after having surgery on May 7 to remove a small bone spur from his left elbow.

Professional career

Seattle Mariners

Hume began his professional career with the Single-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in . He won his first four decisions, allowing six runs on 20 hits and striking out 33 in 30 and one third innings pitched. He allowed two earned runs or less in nine starts, while tossing at least five innings on eight occasions. He was placed on the disabled list with a strained left hip from May 16-30. Hume was promoted to the Class-A High Desert Mavericks on June 19, making three starts. He was placed on the disabled list again with inflammation in his left elbow from July 4 until the end of the season.

In Hume was 17-5 with a 4.81 ERA with 117 strikeouts in 28 games, 27 starts with High Desert. Hume was named to the California League Post-Season All-Star Team on September 1.
